MES Crew Presents: Operation Boombox
Operation: Boombox is an innovative project by MES Crew, designed to overcome the shortage of creative spaces for music and art in Oxford while transforming the city's everyday landscape. With the support of Arts Council England and in partnership with BT Openreach, we are reimagining Oxford’s green utility boxes as vibrant, musically-themed "boomboxes."
What is Operation: Boombox?
Operation: Boombox brings together the talents of local artists and musicians to turn utility boxes into visually stunning and interactive street art installations. These boxes not only showcase incredible graffiti and street art inspired by music but also allow passersby to access the sounds of Oxford’s local musicians through their mobile phones.
How It Works
Art Meets Technology: Utility boxes are painted with bold, music-inspired designs created by local artists.
Interactive Audio Experience: QR codes or digital tags on the boxes connect passersby to tracks and playlists from Oxford-based musicians.
Revitalizing Street Furniture: The once-overlooked green boxes are transformed into cultural touchpoints, celebrating the intersection of art and sound.
Why It Matters
Operation: Boombox is more than just an art project. It’s a celebration of Oxford’s creative community and a step towards overcoming the lack of accessible spaces for art and music. By turning functional street furniture into works of art and sound, we’re:Supporting Local Artists and Musicians: Providing platforms to showcase their talents.
Revitalizing Public Spaces: Adding a fresh, dynamic face to Oxford’s streets.
Engaging the Community: Offering passersby a chance to interact with art and music in everyday settings. See more about Boombox here
